The Corner House by JM Architects

Rising to the challenge of sustainability

The Highland Housing Fair is the first event of its kind in Scotland to showcase over 50 house designs of the future - that people from all backgrounds, ages and income brackets can afford. It aims to make sustainable features a commonplace in every home - just like the indoor WC that was such a revelation in the 1930s!

The event is constructed around the keystone that sums up what homes of the future will be built on - sustainability. The 53 homes on display will all illustrate how architects have responded to the need for sustainable housing by design, innvoation and energy efficiency in their use of materials and interior layouts, to create ultimate sustainable living spaces for the next generation.

The event is based on a successful model that has been used in Europe for decades and is a proactive response to the challenges that face house designers and builders of the future. It originated in Finland, where it is the country’s largest outdoor event of the year, attracting hundreds and thousands of visitors including tourists and interested professionals. Timber construction, solar power and creative use of living space are just some of the features that will inspire the people who build houses - and those destined to live in them.
