

Today (12 May 2008), twins Molly and Anna MacGregor (age 6) of Inshes Primary, Inverness, made history as they marked the start of the build of the UK’s first eco Housing Fair which will take place near Inverness in August 2009.
The Master Plan for the UK’s first Housing Fair – due to be held in Inverness in 2009 – has been unanimously approved by Highland Council’s Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey Planning Applications and Review Committee, which met today (Tuesday 5 February 2008).
A Public Information Day for the UK’s first Housing Fair - due to be held in Inverness in 2009 - welcomed over 50 people through the doors of Inches Church, Inverness, on 11 January 2008.
The Public Information Day opened its doors between 12pm and 8 pm and included an exhibition of the Highland Housing Fair masterplan, which was on show for public comment. The architects’ 28 winning designs were also exhibited for public information.
The Steering Group of the UK’s first ever Housing Fair, due to be held in Inverness in 2009, has appointed Councillor Jean Urquhart as its Chair.
As Vice Convenor of Highland Council, Jean Urquhart is a high profile figure in the area in which the Fair will be held and will help the Fair’s Steering Group to achieve its aim of attracting 30,000 visitors to the event.
Organisers of the UK’s very first Housing Fair have now announced that it will take place in the Highlands of Scotland throughout the whole of August 2009.
The Highland Housing Fair will be based on a very successful model that is found throughout mainland Europe, particularly Finland. Its purpose is to showcase the very best in housing design and innovation, with sustainability being the key theme throughout. In Finland, where Housing Fairs have been running for 40 years, 97% of the population are aware of the concept.
